Did you read Chernow's biography of Hamilton? I've read it twice now. It's simply fantastic. Incredible the machinations that Jefferson and his crew threw at Hamilton to prevent the formation of banks in the US. We're very luck that Hamilton succeeded.
Jefferson was an idealist and a constitutional purist. He believed in an agrarian society that was already being supplanted by a manufacturing economy even in the early 19th century. I think Hamilton saw it and wanted to prepare for it. Ultimately, I’m glad we had both of them in the political arena in the Washington administration. That was a team of rivals!
