I'm a marathoner, and while many of my friends signed up and ran many of the virtual "races" in the last 18 months, I never brought myself to do so -- just could not see any appeal in it. Your post is a great explanation of why that's true in running. I also really appreciate the application to the rest of life and how vividly it makes that point.
I probably wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t my 5th MCM. After running five, you can register for the MCM runners club and skip the registration lottery for future years.
