Funny, I just started reading volume one of Montaigne's essays. I bought them a while ago and they sat on my bookshelf for a while. Now I'm reading them and it's amazing how clear 500 year old prose is! (I have the Donald Frame translation.)
That’s the translation I have as well. The links on Gutenberg are free but somewhat less readable (translated by Charles Cotton in the 17th century). The quotes I used are from Frame.
